e Pompeo, a former director of the Central Intelligence Agency and Secretary of State under the Trump administration, has had an interesting and varied career. Pompeo was born in Orange, California in 1963, and grew up in Santa Ana, California. He later attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated first in his class in 1986. After leaving the military, he attended Harvard Law School, where he earned his law degree in 1994. After law school, Pompeo worked as an attorney in Washington, D.C. before founding an aerospace company, Thayer Aerospace, in Wichita, Kansas. He sold Thayer Aerospace in 2006 and was elected to the United States House of Representatives for Kansas's 4th congressional district in 2011. He served on the House Intelligence Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee during his time as a representative. In 2017, Pompeo was appointed by President Donald Trump to serve as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. He served in this role until 2018, when he was nominated to serve as Secretary of State. During his time as Secretary of State, Pompeo traveled extensively, meeting with foreign leaders and governments to discuss issues such as North Korea's nuclear program and the ongoing conflict in Syria. In addition to his work in government, Pompeo has also been actively involved in his community. He has volunteered as a mentor for young people in Wichita and served on the board of the Kansas Aviation Museum.
