Liu
Zhou, which literally means “willow city”, is a place with a rich historical and cultural heritage. Located in the southern part of China’s Guangxi Province, it has a population of over 4 million people. The name “Liu Zhou” dates back to the Han Dynasty (206 BCE-220 CE). Legend has it that during the reign of Emperor Wu of Han, a government official was traveling to the south of China and stopped by a riverbank in Liu Zhou. He saw a group of willow trees and was so struck by their beauty that he named the city after them. From then on, Liu Zhou has become known as the “City of Willows”. In addition to its beautiful willow trees, Liu Zhou is also famous for its rich food culture, including dishes such as luosifen (spicy rice noodles), guilinggao (a dessert made from a type of turtle shell), and medicinal soups. The city is also home to many scenic spots, such as the Liuzhou Wenchang Tower, the Yufeng Mountain Scenic Area, and the Liujiang Ancient Town.
